Another year is about to end and new beginnings are just a few days away. It is always a bittersweet feeling this time of year; it seems like January 2013 was only yesterday. But knowing that a new year awaits us with opportunity and hope, we celebrate both our past and future. Let’s take some time to reminisce about what has happened 2013.
This year was filled with heartbreaks. Some of our favorite people passed so suddenly. Glee’s Cory Monteith, Fast and Furious’ Paul Walker, revolutionist Nelson Mandela and many more. In addition to those we know, are those we don’t know that passed from school shootings, too many to list; the bombing at the Boston Marathon and Typhoon Haiyan. A moment of silence for those who passed and those whom we lost.
Events that happened in court this year also made a big impact nationwide. The Trevor Martin case sparked up conversation while his shooter, George Zimmerman was found not guilty. A miracle happened when three women who were abducted 10 years ago in Cleveland escaped and were found alive with their children. In politics, the biggest event that had everyone either in tears of joy or sorrow is Obamacare.
On a lighter note, pop culture made new records once again with celebrities going beyond the comfort zone. That’s right, Miley Cyrus is that girl that people love to hate or hate to love. Her new image turned Hollywood upside down and all around with people having conflicting reactions. We also can’t forget Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s new baby North West, and Kanye’s questionable attempt to break into the fashion scene. How can we forget our “crazies” of Hollywood including Lindsay Lohan and Amanda Bynes. Lohan is out of rehab again and says she is doing better, even landing an appearance on Oprah; Bynes, however, might actually suffer from schizophrenia, which explains her outbreaks. On the royal news front, Kate Middleton gave birth Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge.
Lastly, that song you can’t get out of your head? Yep, Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” has pretty much become 2013’s anthem. In cinema, the most anticipated film this year had to be “The Hunger Games: Chasing Fire.” Followed by the ever popular super heroes “Iron Man 3”, “The Wolverine”, and “Man of Steel.” There are so many more that haven’t been mentioned but you get the idea. No matter how big or small the event, it is a moment to remember. So, try looking back at your 2013 and what you have done and achieved. If you haven’t done it yet, make it a goal for next year, if you have achieved it, cross it off your list and move on to the next one. Let’s start fresh and create more memories in the new year! Let’s reminisce 2013 and look forward to 2014!
