Its time to tune in for the annual academy awards again. During this time of year, celebrities are just as worried about what to wear to these star studded events as they are about winning. Making a statement on the red carpet will get you noticed whether you win or not. Kicking off the award season was People’s Choice Awards and the recently aired, Golden Globe Awards. A couple of celebrities caught my eye at the Golden Globes. First, Zooey Deschanel finally made the hit list this year. Wearing an Oscar de la Renta gown, the star pulled off a retro chic look with a hint of girly sweetness. Zooey is always shocking viewers with her odd fashion choices but this time she nailed it. Her corky personality and style really shined through this time around. The gown embodies her lovable weirdness but isalso aesthetically appealing for the average eye. Next, new “it” girl, Lupita Nyong’o really set the bar for future red carpet attenders. She stepped onto the red carpet in a caped Ralph Lauren dress that oozed elegance and poise. The vibrant red complimented her so well and the silhouette of the gown hugged her perfectly. The highlight of the gown was the cape that flowed from the dropped shoulder. This was an amazing debut on the red carpet and I’m excited to see what she comes up with next. Lastly, one of my fave fashionistas in Hollywood, Emma Watson surprised the crowd with her Dior gown. What seemed like a simple red, short-sleeved dress turned out to be hiding pants inside. From the front it looked like a normal gown, but when she turned around, the backless dress revealed her navy pants. Emma really took a risk by sporting pants on the red carpet. But this risk paid off because the look was effortlessly chic and the fact that pants are practically forbidden at the academy awards, its something to applaud. She pulled it off with style, and only a handful of people can take fashion risks and get positive feedback. Everyone on the red carpet wants to impress the crowd and look beautiful on stage, but only a few are remembered, and maybe one will start a trend. Will pants be accepted on the red carpet? Only time will tell.
